Some families want a space that speaks their own cultural language. In much of India, a diagnosis sends people to an astrologer long before it sends them to a counsellor, and pretending otherwise does not stop it happening — it only means the conversation takes place somewhere with no boundaries at all.
Medical Astrology at Oncology Mitra is offered for exactly that reason, and on exactly one condition: it is a reflective practice, not a medical one. It will not tell you what your illness is, what your scan means, how your treatment will go, or how much time anyone has. Those questions belong to your oncologist, and our practitioner will return them to your oncologist every time.
What this service is
A structured conversation, grounded in Vedic astrological tradition, about the phase of life you are in — the pressures on you, the patterns you notice in how you are coping, what feels unresolved, and where you draw strength. For people who hold these beliefs, the framework gives shape to feelings that are otherwise hard to put into words, and a sense of order at a moment when very little feels ordered.
It is chosen, never assigned. Nobody is placed into it, no programme requires it, and declining it changes nothing about the support you receive.
What this service is not
We want to be blunt here, because the stakes are high and the field has a poor record.
- It is not a diagnosis. Nothing in a session identifies, confirms, rules out or describes any illness.
- It is not a prognosis. No session will tell you or your family how your cancer will progress, whether treatment will work, or how long anyone has to live.
- It is not a second opinion. Charts are never read against a scan, a biopsy, a blood report or a treatment plan.
- It is not a reason to change anything medical. No session will ever suggest delaying, stopping, timing or altering treatment, medication or surgery.
- It is not a remedy. No gemstone, ritual, fast or object is sold or prescribed here, and no practitioner may tell you one affects your illness.
The boundary our practitioner works to
Our practitioner has a standing instruction, and it is not negotiable: any question that touches diagnosis, test results, treatment, medication or survival is declined and redirected to your treating oncology team. If a session moves that way, it stops.
If something you say suggests you are in distress, frightened or thinking about stopping treatment, the practitioner will not counsel you through it. They will offer to connect you with our psycho-oncology counselling, which is staffed by qualified professionals, and in an emergency they will tell you to contact your hospital or call 112.
Who tends to ask for it
Mostly people who were already going to consult someone, and caregivers carrying a weight they cannot set down. Having it offered inside a supportive-care service, with firm limits and a practitioner who will not trade on fear, is safer than having it sought outside with none.
It is equally common for people to want nothing to do with it. That is an entirely ordinary choice and no one will raise it with you again.
Where it sits alongside your care
Beside everything else, and under all of it. Your oncologist directs your treatment. Our counsellors, dietitians and yoga educators support you around it. This service sits at the outer edge of that circle, as an optional reflective space for those who want one.
If you are weighing it up and are unsure, our counselling team is the better first conversation, and we will say so.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Can a session tell me how my cancer will progress?
- No. Nothing here predicts the course of an illness, the outcome of treatment or how long anyone has. Those questions go to your treating oncologist, and our practitioner will redirect them every time.
- Will I be told to change or delay my treatment?
- Never. No session may suggest altering, pausing, timing or stopping any treatment, medication or surgery. If anyone ever tells you otherwise, report it to us through Grievance Redressal.
- Do you sell gemstones, rituals or remedies?
- No. Nothing is sold or prescribed, and no practitioner may claim an object or ritual affects your illness.
- Do I have to take this if it is in my programme?
- No. It is entirely optional and chosen by you. Declining changes nothing about the rest of your support.
- Is my chart or birth information shared with anyone?
- No. It is treated like anything else you tell us: confidential, and never shared with your family, your providers or anyone else without your consent.
- Is this a replacement for counselling?
- No. It is a reflective conversation, not psychological care. If what you need is counselling, our psycho-oncology team are qualified professionals and that is where we will point you.
